RankSpy Ads — Detect Competitor Ad Platforms
The Ads tab in RankSpy detects which ad platforms a competitor runs on by spotting their tracking pixels. Plus on-demand ad creative library.
---
Introduction
You can guess at a competitor's ad strategy. Or you can read the pixels they install on their own site and see exactly which platforms they pay. RankSpy's Ads tab does the second. For rankar.ai the scan detects 0 ad pixels — no paid advertising platforms running on the marketing site. This article explains what the Ads tab finds and how to use the data.
Pixel Detection: The Free Layer
RankSpy's pixel detection runs on every scan at no extra credit cost. It looks for the JavaScript snippets and tracking endpoints associated with each major ad platform:
- Meta Pixel — Facebook + Instagram ads.
- Google Ads conversion tag — Google Search and Display ads.
- LinkedIn Insight Tag — LinkedIn ads.
- TikTok Pixel — TikTok ads.
- Reddit Pixel — Reddit ads.
- Pinterest Tag — Pinterest ads.
- X / Twitter Pixel — X ads.
- Bing UET — Microsoft Ads.
For rankar.ai the count is 0. Either rankar.ai does not run paid ads, or the ad pixels are loaded on a different surface (like a conversion landing page) not the homepage.
Ad Creatives: The On-Demand Layer
For each detected platform, RankSpy can fetch the actual ad creatives the competitor is running. This is an on-demand action that uses additional credits.
The captured library shows:
- Ad headlines.
- Ad copy variations.
- Landing pages each ad sends to.
- Estimated spend tier.
Useful for inspiration (what messages do they test?) and for understanding their funnel (which landing pages do their best ads send to?).
Reading "0 ad pixels"
Zero pixels does not always mean zero ad spend. Common patterns:
- Pixels on conversion pages only. A site that loads pixels only on
/pricingor/checkoutwill scan as 0 if RankSpy only inspected the homepage. - Server-side conversion API. Modern setups send conversion events server-side, bypassing client-side pixels entirely.
- Paused campaigns. The pixels may exist but be inactive.
- Genuinely no paid ads. Common for early-stage or product-led companies.
For rankar.ai, the "0 ad pixels" finding is consistent with a product-led growth motion (no paid ads, organic acquisition via the SEO suite itself).
Strategic Implications
If a competitor runs heavy paid ads (5+ platforms detected, fresh creatives weekly), they have high paid acquisition costs and high CAC. You can compete with organic + lower CAC.
If a competitor runs zero paid ads (like rankar.ai), they are betting on organic acquisition. To compete, you need organic discoverability — which means winning at SEO and at AI search.
