Introduction

The Keywords tab is RankSpy's core competitor-keyword-research view. It tells you every term the scanned domain ranks for, where they rank, and where you do not — the classic keyword gap surfaced as an actionable list. This article walks through the workflow.

Loading Keyword Data

Keyword data is on-demand inside RankSpy. The empty state on the Keywords tab shows a load action. Click it to fetch the keyword universe for the scanned domain. Loading takes 30-90 seconds depending on domain size.

For a small site like rankar.ai, the load returns 100-500 keywords. For an established competitor with thousands of ranking pages, the count can reach 10,000+ keywords.

The Keyword Table

Each row shows:

• Keyword.
• Competitor position.
• Monthly search volume.
• Keyword Difficulty (KD).
• Search intent (informational, commercial, transactional, navigational).
• Gap status — whether your domain ranks for the same query and where.

Filtering for Opportunities

Three filter combinations matter most:

The "easy wins" filter:

• Competitor ranks top 10.
• You rank 50+ or unranked.
• KD ≤ 40.
• Volume ≥ 500.

The resulting list is your easiest opportunity universe.

The "topical cluster" filter:

• Filter by intent + topical theme.
• Use to plan a content sprint around a cluster.

The "head-to-head" filter:

• Both you and competitor rank.
• Sort by gap size.

Use to find queries where you are close to overtaking the competitor.

From Keywords to Action

For each high-value opportunity:

1. Check intent. Does the SERP align with the page you would create?
2. Pick or create a target page.
3. Add to RankTracker so the position is monitored.
4. Brief in RankWriter if you need new content.
5. Audit in RankAudit to ensure technical readiness.
