Stage 3
Filtering for quality and relevance
Setting up a gap comparison
On the Link Gap tab, enter your domain plus up to four competitor domains. RankBridge cross-references referring domain lists for all sites and generates a table of domains that link to at least one competitor but not to you.
- Compare your domain against up to four competitors
- Table shows domains linking to them, not you
Reading the gap table
Each row shows the gap domain's rating, which of your competitors it links to, and how many competitors in total it links to — a domain linking to three out of four competitors is a stronger signal of an achievable, relevant link opportunity than one linking to only one.
- Column shows how many competitors each domain links to
Filtering for quality and relevance
Filters let you set a minimum domain rating and exclude domains already flagged as toxic elsewhere in RankBridge, keeping the opportunity list focused on links actually worth pursuing rather than every possible gap.
- Set a minimum DR threshold
- Exclude domains already flagged as toxic
Sending opportunities onward
Selected gap domains can be exported directly or sent to RankLinks to check whether they are available as guest post placements, connecting the gap analysis straight into an actionable outreach or purchase workflow.
Why this matters
Leveraging RankBridge's anchor text analysis effectively allows you to identify not just *where* competitors gain links, but *how* they frame those links. Understanding that a competitor consistently acquires links using exact-match anchors for a specific long-tail keyword indicates a deliberate strategy. Replicating this, where appropriate and naturally, can significantly strengthen your own topical relevance for that term, potentially shifting rankings in competitive SERPs. Conversely, neglecting anchor text analysis might lead you to pursue links with generic anchors, missing a crucial opportunity to signal clear relevance to search engines.
A poor application of this feature, such as indiscriminately copying competitor anchor text without considering your own content and search intent, can be detrimental. If competitors are using branded anchors or highly specific variations that don't align with your target keywords, replicating this without critical thought dilutes your own link equity. For example, if a rival ranks for 'best espresso machines' using anchors like 'Acme Coffee reviews', but your content focuses on 'home barista setups', blindly chasing 'Acme Coffee reviews' anchors will not contribute to your desired ranking performance, and could even appear spammy if unnatural.
Identifying Anchor Text Discrepancies for Content Gaps
Beyond simply finding referring domains, RankBridge's anchor text patterns can reveal significant content gaps or opportunities. If a competitor consistently receives links with anchors related to a specific sub-topic that your site either doesn't cover or covers inadequately, this indicates user and linker interest you are currently missing. This isn't just about link acquisition; it's a diagnostic for content strategy, suggesting areas where your topical authority needs expansion to attract natural links.
For instance, if your primary competitors are frequently linked to with anchors like 'ethical sourcing coffee beans' or 'sustainable coffee farms', yet your content focuses solely on brewing methods, you have a clear discrepancy. This suggests a valuable content vertical you're not addressing, which is attracting significant external validation for your rivals. Prioritising content creation around these under-represented themes, then actively pursuing links with relevant anchors, transforms a link gap into a comprehensive content and authority strategy.
- Filter anchor text by common phrases to pinpoint key thematic gaps.
- Cross-reference anchor text themes with your existing content audit.
- Identify competitor sub-topics generating high-volume, relevant anchor text.
- Use these insights to brief your content team for new article development.
