Question Keyword Research People Also Ask and Forums
How to mine Google's People Also Ask box, Reddit and niche forums for the exact questions real users ask, and turn them into headings and FAQ content that wins featured snippets.

Question-format queries are the clearest possible intent signal — the searcher has told you exactly what they want answered. Google's featured snippet and PAA algorithms specifically favour content that mirrors the question structure closely, which means a page with a clear H2 matching the question and a direct 40-60 word answer immediately below it has a real, above-average shot at winning the snippet.
Mining the PAA box properly
Search your seed term and open the People Also Ask box, then click each question to reveal new questions that load beneath it — repeat this three or four times per seed and you'll surface 15-20 real questions rather than the initial four. Google generates these dynamically from actual query and click data, so every one is a validated real question, not a guess.
Group the harvested questions by sub-theme; several near-duplicate phrasings usually belong under one H2 as an expanded answer rather than as separate pages.
- Click to expand PAA repeatedly (3-4 rounds per seed)
- Group near-duplicate questions under one heading
- Note which questions repeat across multiple seed searches — those are highest priority
- Draft a 40-60 word direct answer for each before writing the fuller explanation
Forums and communities as a second data source
Reddit, niche forums and Quora surface the messier, more honest version of a question that PAA sometimes smooths over — real phrasing, real frustrations, real follow-up questions. Search 'site:reddit.com [topic]' and read the actual comment threads, not just the post titles, since the most valuable question phrasing often appears three replies deep.
Turning questions into content in RankTracker
Add harvested question keywords to RankTracker with the 'question' intent tag, then check estimated volume for each before committing writer time — some PAA-sourced questions have negligible search volume and are better as a supporting FAQ line than a dedicated section. Track snippet ownership over time; RankTracker will flag when you've won or lost a featured snippet position for a tracked term.
Key takeaways
- ✓Expand PAA boxes 3-4 rounds deep for a full question list
- ✓Answer directly in 40-60 words immediately under the matching heading
- ✓Mine forum threads, not just post titles, for authentic phrasing
- ✓Verify volume before writing — not every question deserves its own section
