Where recommendations come from
The Recommendations panel suggests keywords related to ones you already track, pulled from search-console-style relevance and competitor overlap. Each suggestion shows estimated volume and a one-click add.
Reviewing suggestions
Do not add every suggestion blindly — filter by relevance and volume, and skip anything off-topic for the site. Add in small batches so the rankings table stays manageable.
- Filter suggestions by volume and relevance
- Add in batches of 20-30
- Skip anything off-topic
The page mapper
Once a keyword is tracked, the Page Mapper tab lets you assign it to the URL that should rank for it, whether that page exists yet or is planned. This creates a target you can check tracked results against, catching drift early.
Spotting mapping gaps
The mapper flags keywords with no assigned page and pages with no assigned keywords, both signs of a content plan gap worth raising with whoever owns the content pipeline.
Why this matters
Effective utilisation of the RankTracker’s recommendation and page mapping features directly impacts your ability to drive relevant organic traffic. When keywords are correctly assigned to the most appropriate, authoritative pages, search engines can more accurately understand content intent and deliver your pages to users seeking that specific information. This precision mapping prevents keyword cannibalisation, where multiple pages compete for the same terms, diluting their collective ranking potential and hindering the establishment of clear topical authority for your site.
Conversely, a haphazard approach to keyword mapping, or neglecting the recommendations entirely, can lead to significant SEO underperformance. Imagine a scenario where high-volume, transactional keywords are mapped to blog posts rather than category or product pages. This mismatch sends conflicting signals to search engines about the page's purpose and conversion potential, resulting in lower rankings, reduced click-through rates, and ultimately, lost revenue. The tool’s insights guide strategic content alignment, ensuring every page serves its optimal SEO function.
Prioritising Actionable Recommendations for Impact
The sheer volume of keyword recommendations can sometimes feel overwhelming. A critical workflow involves prioritising those suggestions that offer the highest potential impact with the least amount of effort, often by focusing on keywords that align with existing, under-optimised content or represent clear, undisputed new content opportunities. Resist the urge to map every single recommendation without strategic consideration; instead, concentrate on those that close identified content gaps, consolidate overlapping themes, or target commercial intent with high precision.
Decision-making for mapping must be grounded in an understanding of search intent and content relevance. For example, informational queries should typically map to blog posts or guides, while commercial queries should align with product, service, or category pages. The goal is to create a seamless user journey from search query to on-page experience, fulfilling the user's intent with the most pertinent content available on your site. Misalignment here is a common pitfall that undermines ranking efforts and wastes crawl budget.
- Analyse keyword intent: informational vs. transactional vs. navigational.
- Assess current page authority and relevance for suggested mappings.
- Prioritise recommendations with high search volume and low existing competition.
- Identify and consolidate cannibalising keywords under a single, authoritative URL.

This immediate action will expose areas needing urgent attention, ensuring your keyword strategy remains agile and optimised.
- Filter recommendations by 'Untracked' keywords.
- Select 5-10 untracked keywords highly relevant to your site.
