Anchor distribution check

Bulk Ordering: Scale Agency Link Campaigns: Opening bulk order mode to Filling the table to Anchor distribution check.

Opening bulk order mode

From the Marketplace or Saved Sites list, select multiple sites with the checkboxes and click Bulk Order rather than Compare. This opens a spreadsheet-style table with one row per selected site.

Filling the table

Each row needs a target URL and anchor text; use the fill-down control at the top of a column to apply the same value to every row, then override individual cells where a specific site needs a different anchor.

A column for content option (self-supplied, RankWriter, publisher-written) lets you mix approaches within the same batch depending on each publisher's turnaround and pricing.

  • Fill-down applies one value across all rows in a column
  • Override individual cells for exceptions
  • Mix content options per row within a single bulk batch

Anchor distribution check

Before submitting, the wizard shows an anchor distribution summary — percentage exact match, partial match, branded and naked URL across the whole batch — flagging it in amber if exact match exceeds a natural-looking share.

Submitting and paying once

Bulk orders are paid in a single transaction that funds escrow for every row, but each order then proceeds independently through acceptance and delivery, appearing as separate cards in the Buyer Dashboard.

Why this matters

Effective anchor text distribution is paramount for maintaining a natural link profile and avoiding algorithmic penalties. Mismanagement, such as over-optimising with exact-match anchors across multiple new placements simultaneously, can flag your site for unnatural linking practices. Conversely, a thoughtful, varied approach, integrating branded, naked URL, and diverse partial-match anchors via bulk ordering, signals a more organic growth pattern to search engines, bolstering trust and authority without incurring undue risk. This feature ensures your agency can scale link acquisition while adhering to best practices, critical for long-term client success.

Consider an agency managing an e-commerce client promoting a new product line. Without a bulk ordering system for link placements, individually managing anchor and target variations across 50 different sites becomes a logistical nightmare, often leading to rushed, repetitive anchor choices. RankLinks' bulk interface allows for strategic sequencing, ensuring that no more than 5% of new links use a specific exact-match anchor, for instance, and that target URLs are diversified across product pages, category pages, and the homepage. This strategic oversight prevents common over-optimisation pitfalls, preserving the client's organic visibility and enhancing overall campaign efficacy.

Prioritising Anchor Diversity with Bulk Editing

When populating the bulk order table, a common pitfall is to apply a 'set and forget' mentality to anchor text, often defaulting to the most obvious commercial terms. This approach overlooks the nuanced signals search engines interpret from a backlink profile. Instead, view the anchor column not just as a field to complete, but as a strategic lever for keyword diversification and topical relevance. Utilise a blend of branded anchors (e.g., "Company Name"), naked URLs, generic phrases (e.g., "click here," "learn more"), and a controlled percentage of partial or exact-match keywords that reflect long-tail variations or related topics.

The power of bulk editing lies in its ability to enforce this diversity systematically. Rather than individual, reactive decisions, you can pre-plan anchor distribution across an entire campaign. Before finalising your order, take a holistic view of the 'Anchor Text' column in relation to the 'Target URL' column. Ensure that the chosen anchor naturally aligns with the content of the linked page and provides contextual value. Avoid cramming keywords into every available link; focus on relevance and user experience first, allowing commercial intent to surface organically through a balanced anchor strategy.

  • Audit existing backlink anchors before ordering to identify gaps.
  • Allocate anchor types (branded, naked, exact, partial) as percentages of total links.
  • Use related LSI keywords for partial-match anchors, not just target keywords.
  • Regularly review your anchor text distribution post-placement for anomalies.

Do it now

To internalise the process of strategic anchor and target sequencing, open the Bulk Order Mode in RankLinks and begin populating at least 10 rows with hypothetical placements. Focus specifically on varying the 'Anchor Text' and 'Target URL' fields, experimenting with different types of anchors and directing them to a mix of homepage, category, and specific product or service pages. This hands-on exercise will solidify your understanding of how to implement diversity at scale before you commit to live orders.

The objective is not to submit an order, but to practice the planning stage of anchor distribution.

  • Navigate to the 'Orders' section in RankLinks.
  • Click 'Bulk Order Mode' to open the table.
  • Add at least 10 placeholder entries for 'Site URL' and 'Target URL'.
  • Populate the 'Anchor Text' column with a diverse range of anchor types for each entry.

Key takeaways

  • Use Bulk Order mode rather than repeating the wizard for campaigns of several links
  • Fill-down speeds up the table but always check per-row overrides
  • Watch the anchor distribution warning before submitting
  • Expect one payment but separate order cards for tracking afterwards
