Link Monitoring: 24/7 Backlink Protection: What gets monitored to Reading the monitor tab to Acting on a flagged link.

What gets monitored

Every completed order is automatically added to the Link Monitor, which periodically rechecks the live URL for the link's presence, follow status and the page's continued indexation.

Reading the monitor tab

The Monitor tab lists every tracked link with a status icon: green for live and dofollow, amber for changed (e.g. now nofollow), red for removed. Clicking a row shows the check history over time.

  • Green — link confirmed live and dofollow at last check
  • Amber — link status changed since delivery
  • Red — link no longer found on the page

Setting alert preferences

Notification settings let you choose whether link status changes email you immediately or only appear as an in-app badge, which matters if you're monitoring a large number of legacy placements.

Why this matters

Unmonitored backlinks, even those initially confirmed as 'do-follow' and correctly placed, can quietly lose their value or disappear entirely. Without active tracking, a high-authority link that once contributed significantly to your organic search performance could be changed to 'no-follow' or removed by the publishing site months after delivery. This erosion of backlink equity often goes unnoticed, leading to a gradual but perceptible decline in target keyword rankings and organic traffic, which becomes extremely difficult to diagnose without historical data on the link's status. The opportunity cost of not maintaining acquired links is substantial, as regaining lost ground requires further investment.

Consider a scenario where you've secured 20 high-DR placements over six months, costing thousands. If five of these links silently become 'no-follow' or break due to site redesigns, your investment diminishes by 25% without your knowledge. Your carefully constructed link profile, designed to boost a specific product page, now delivers less impact. RankLinks' monitoring proactively flags these issues, allowing you to intervene. This might involve contacting the publisher to restore the link's status or understanding the precise moment a link's equity was lost, enabling a more accurate analysis of ranking fluctuations and a faster response to protect your SEO efforts.

Prioritising Remediation Efforts

Not all flagged links require immediate, high-priority intervention. When RankLinks identifies an issue, your first step should be to assess the link's specific impact and the potential return on effort for remediation. A 'no-follow' change on a low-authority, niche-irrelevant domain, for instance, might warrant a low-priority follow-up email, whereas a broken link on a high-DR, highly relevant editorial placement demands immediate, direct contact and a persistent follow-up strategy. Over-investing time on minor issues can detract from addressing critical link failures, so a systematic approach to prioritisation is key.

Your decision matrix should incorporate several factors: the Domain Rating (DR) or Domain Authority (DA) of the linking site, the relevance of the linking content to your target page, the anchor text used, and the estimated organic traffic flow through that link. RankLinks provides these data points within the 'Monitor' tab. A link from a DR 80 site that suddenly returns a 404 error code for your target URL is an emergency. Conversely, a 'no-follow' applied to a footer link on a DR 30 directory site might simply be noted for a future, lower-priority outreach cycle. This strategic triage ensures optimal use of your outreach resources.

  • Assess DR/DA of the linking domain.
  • Evaluate content relevance and anchor text.
  • Prioritise based on estimated organic traffic impact.
  • Differentiate between 'no-follow' and broken link issues.

Do it now

To immediately familiarise yourself with the monitoring functionality, select a completed order within RankLinks that contains at least one delivered link. Navigate to the 'Monitor' tab for that specific order. Even if no issues are currently flagged, observe the status indicators and the data columns available. This provides the foundational context for how you will diagnose and act on problems once they arise, preparing you for proactive link profile management rather than reactive damage control.

This is what you should do now:

  • Log in to your RankLinks account.
  • Select a completed order from your 'Orders' list.
  • Click the 'Monitor' tab for that specific order.
  • Review the 'Status' column and available data points for delivered links.

Key takeaways

  • Every completed order is added automatically to ongoing link monitoring
  • Check the Monitor tab's status icons rather than manually revisiting live pages
  • Use Claim Guarantee promptly on flagged links still within a guarantee period
  • Tune alert preferences so important changes don't get buried
