Mission brief

For a real site you are authorised to work on, retain the capstone deliverable of at least 150 relevant keyword candidates and a justified six-month plan. Record source, market and date for observed data. Mark manually generated candidates and unavailable metrics clearly; never fabricate numbers to fill the database.

Organise queries by visitor task, record intent and a preferred existing or proposed page for planning, and explain priorities using relevance, evidence and effort. A shared query across pages is not automatically harmful overlap.

Work through the research stages

Generate five to eight relevant seeds from actual offerings, then expand using customer language, observed suggestions and available research sources. Add authorised Search Console or competitor evidence where available, without claiming complete coverage.

  • Record each candidate’s origin and measurement context
  • Deduplicate exact repeats and review distinct meanings before grouping
  • Assign intent and a preferred page with a documented reason
  • Sequence work into a reviewable six-month plan using actual capacity
  • Add selected queries to RankTracker using only supported import fields and settings

Review the deliverable without manufacturing evidence

Retain the mission’s minimum three supporting keywords per cluster; if a group lacks useful candidates, revisit the research or explain the gap for review rather than inventing demand or irrelevant variants. The count is an exercise requirement, not a Google ranking rule.

Check evidence provenance, intent decisions, page purpose and priority reasoning. Distinguish planned URLs from live destinations. Missing Search Console access or a provider report should be documented, not silently replaced with dummy data.

Check the saved monitoring rows

Inspect imported queries and page mappings, run only authorised available checks, and read the resulting status, timestamp, position and URL. Keep the broader research plan outside unsupported tool fields. A provider outage or usage limit blocks measurement, not completion of the research notes.

Set a review date and owner for the plan. Treat future ranking changes as observations to investigate, not proof that the capstone caused gains. Preserve the course’s existing assessment and certification requirements.

Why this lesson matters

Apply the course to a real site with a sourced, prioritised keyword plan and supported monitoring workflow, preserving the capstone deliverable.

Keep the evidence reviewable

For a real site you are authorised to work on, retain the capstone deliverable of at least 150 relevant keyword candidates and a justified six-month plan. Record source, market and date for observed data. Mark manually generated candidates and unavailable metrics clearly; never fabricate numbers to fill the database.

Do it now

Apply this lesson to a real site you are authorised to work on.

  • Record the audience task, source, market and observation date.
  • Keep estimates, observations and missing data clearly distinguished.
  • Explain the page or monitoring decision and its limitations.
  • Assign an owner and review date without promising ranking gains.

Key takeaways

  • Mission brief
  • Work through the research stages
  • Review the deliverable without manufacturing evidence
  • Check the saved monitoring rows

Practise it now in RankTracker

Verify the selected project, query/page mappings and supported monitoring settings, then complete the capstone research deliverable without inventing missing metrics.
